However, Longdale knows what the game must be in order to be true to fans and the legacy: classic high fantasy and community dependency.“Whatever we do in the future, we’re going to embrace what we are. There’s 20 years of magic in there that’s sustaining. And we’ll mix something we think is the next evolution for EverQuest.”So no, there's no direct statement that EQ3 is already 'in development' at all. In fact, most of the interview talks about the design philosophy for the EQ games and the problems with EQ Next. They should go the Marvel route.

Map out single player, story-driven action RPG titles, featuring a major hero of a particular class and race. Each new title features a new, intertwining story with a new hero from another class and race. Cover all the bases from dashing hero, ruthless brawler, etc etc. Get some big hitters in on the writing so while each game is its own complete story, there's a nice overarching story that keeps you coming back. Finally, after several titles, there's enough interest and assets to come back swinging on the MMO front.Well to be honest, after all these years, I'd like a single player actiony-RPG encompassing all of the race and class combos. Up to 6 player co-op (but not totally required) and battle royale if they really have to.The original Everquest is still there to scratch that itch and Pantheon is on the horizon as far as MMOs go.
That's my 2 cents. I feel like the only optimistic person here, I'm not sure what kind of game it would be; if different than original EQ or a revamped upgrade without zoning, lag, etc. I know everyone plays differently and typically DBG are out for cash grabs but I would enjoy a rebooted version of EQ so it's like a whole new world but the fun quests, epics and GROUPING aspect. I'm in the minority but felt like boxing kind of killed the game; what's the point of a single player game if I need to run five accounts in order to PLAY it?
Give me back my fun EQ please thx. It gets to the point where you can have to much content and be burdened by it as a developer.
You also have issues with backwards compatibility if you try to do drastic changes. Wow for example is getting really old and has to deal with a lot legacy. It would be far better to just scrap it and come out with a wow.
Even if it’s free or an expansion and they go “World go boom, your character asleep in ice and just woke up level 1 again with amnesia”.In an idea world I agree, but games are software and have the downsides of such.
